The acronym C.U.B stands for the union of Leather and Wood, Cuir Union Bois in French. The studio is the result of a collaboration between two artisan-designers: Sophie Gailliot, a leather craftsman, and Richard Pontais, a cabinetmaker. Eclectic life experiences and inspiration from painters, photographers and architects such as Karl Blossfeldt, Bernd & Hilla Becher, and Vassily Kandinsky influence Atelier C.U.B.’s furniture pieces. Atelier C.U.B combines wood and leather with a splash of design to create warm modern furniture pieces. Their works are designed and made in the Atelier C.U.B. workshop in Montréal.
