Wheel thrown, then hand-altered. Glazed glassy blue inside, unglazed with painterly abstract marks on the exterior. Each vase has its own unique shape and markings
Made in the wabi sabi tradition. Crazing, and other irregular textures and surfaces are part of the handmade nature of the work, and should be embraced.
Approx. 6"W x 5"H
Studio Joo is a brand of thoughtfully-designed and handmade objects by Brooklyn artist, Elaine Tian.
Prior to her career as a designer, Elaine studied Drawing and Sculpture at The College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia, then pursued her Masters in Design Studies.
Joo is where these disciplines meet.
Comprised primarily of porcelain vessels and light fixtures, the work combines sculpture (form/materials), drawing (mark-making), design (function), and is inspired by the beauty of simplicity and the wabi-sabi aesthetic.
